本書作者根據(jù)歷年雅思閱讀考題，對出題的范圍進(jìn)行了總結(jié)，把涉及的題材大體分為十二大類別：（1）自然現(xiàn)象，（2）人類歷史上的重大事件，（3）交通運(yùn)輸，（4）語言，（5）環(huán)境保護(hù)，（6）動物，（7）建筑，（8）社會問題，（9）醫(yī)療衛(wèi)生，（10）農(nóng)、工、商，（11）教育，（12）科學(xué)技術(shù)。本書的閱讀訓(xùn)練部分就是按照這十二個專題分單元編寫的，每個單元包括五篇由短到長的文章，每個單元的練習(xí)都覆蓋各種常見題型。這樣的編寫讓考生對每個專題都能得到充分的閱讀訓(xùn)練，從而熟悉這一專題可能涉及的詞匯、表達(dá)方式和出題方式。這樣，在真正的考試中，就不會因為對題材感到生疏而影響閱讀速度。
